Intangible Cultural Heritage

Flourishing under the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 - 1945), Nhã nhạc - the elegant and sacred court music performed during grand royal ceremonies and rituals - became an indispensable part of the imperial court. After the fall of the Nguyen Dynasty in 1945, it lost its social role and performance setting. However, following its recognition by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003 (later inscribed in 2008 as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity), the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre and related organizations launched national programs to preserve, restore, and promote its cultural value.
